BASIC INFO
Name: Japan (also known as Nippon/Nihon-koku/State of Japan) [Honda Kiku, or Western order is Kiku Honda]
Gender: Male
Appearance: Though not visible, Kiku's skin is marred with a few burn marks and scars here and there, testaments to his various experiments or missions that did not necessarily go well. However, he keeps them hidden as much as possible by wearing long-sleeved shirts, jackets, and full trousers (if not in a yukata, which he rarely wears in order to be better prepared for emergencies).
Personality: Kiku Honda is best known for his ability to sense the mood, quietly observing others and deciding what to say or do before speaking or acting. Shy and reserved, he enjoys peace and quiet, having spent many of his years alone before the Western world knocked at his door. His unique but shy personality holds an air of mystery, unintentionally (but beneficially) attracting people to him. Despite his love and pride in his own traditions, he enjoys learning about other cultures and customs, though he often needs some time to adjust to them.
He is a hard worker, putting all of his efforts into doing something to the best of his ability. He dislikes failure, and his tendencies for slightly harsh self-disciplines coupled with his unwavering determination to succeed despite the odds often cause him to come across as masochistic or stubborn. Though he would never put any of his allies or teammates in harms way, his masochistic streak or stubbornness might prevent him from removing himself from situations in order to produce the results he is after. His perfectionist tendencies occasionally hinder his effectiveness and his shyness or desire to 'tweak just one more thing' making it difficult for the project to be completed hastily. Despite his determination and vigor, he views himself as old, often wondering if he will be able to change with the times. He especially questions these views when the old scars from past wars flare up.
He secretly enjoys the otaku lifestyle, occasionally expressing his love for manga and anime to others, though he finds he is focusing more on drawing blueprints or strategies as of late. He is religious to the point where he will do anything to keep his soul pure. When sick or bored, he can almost always be found with a sketchpad, manga, video game, or some other random form of entertainment he has probably made himself. He is able to work with most machines, or invent new, more effective ones that can be both compact and serve as fierce weaponry.
Kiku is able to keep calm, even in difficult situations. He bases his advice to others on what will ultimately be best for the majority of those around him as a whole. Though difficult to anger or frighten, Kiku has suffered more of both temperaments due to the apocalypse and its toll on his people and those he considers friends. He has since become much quieter to conceal this, and although he is still slightly suspicious of his neighbors and their intentions, he has attempted to put aside their past differences in order to stop the zombies. Because Kiku has such excellent control over his emotions, it is often hard for his allies to determine what he is thinking or truly feeling about a situation, though he can be persuaded to speak more freely, depending on the nation approaching him.
He has immense pride in those closest to him (be they friends or his own people far away), and his fighting spirit is difficult to match. Kiku is a skilled fighter, particularly with the katana or in hand-to-hand combat. Being a small island nation, he is most familiar with naval battles, but is comfortable in varying types of terrain due to his battle experience and actual age. His small frame allows him to be both a quick, precise opponent in battle or an effective scout, though he will often suffer aches and pains in his joints afterward.
Relations with other chars: (apologies, I am sure there are more than this!)
Allies/Close Friends
- America - The two bonded over video games in the past, but in the present their relationship is more in technology and advances in weaponry.
- England - Occasional mentions of the past will push this relationship into 'tense', but Kiku realizes that situations are different than they were in wartime. He also admittedly misses tea and quiet afternoons discussing classical literature.
- Italy - Their bonds ran deep before the Second World War, and though the Axis Powers have long disbanded they seem to have remained close.
- Prussia - As a friend to Germany, Kiku also feels it wise to be friends with him. He also does not mind making food for him...most of the time...
- Romano - Kiku also feels that it is wise to be kind to Italy's brother, even if their relationship falls more under 'unreadable' than friendly.
Enemies/Tense Relationships
- China - The past lingers around them too much to make it easy for amends, but Kiku is willing to try. However, he will immediately return to cold and indifferent if Yao attempts to be his 'brother' again.
- Russia - Probably the only person Kiku hates and spites deeply. The two have a very...tense past, and being confined in the same building usually doesn't help matters.
- South Korea - The air around this relationship is...difficult to place. He does not hate Korea (never has), but actions always speak louder than words (especially apologies, which are sometimes empty). Kiku is doing his best to...co-exist with him at this point (rather than arguing over the past or trying to make amends that never seem to work out).
Special abilities: He is able to dislocate/relocate several of his joints, helping him to better blend into places. However, this results in him suffering bad arthritis.
AU-RELATED
Short range weapon of choice: His katana, which has served him well through the years. He is also found of kunai, or other small pieces of metal worked as close to ninja weaponry as possible under the circumstances. He'll also engage in hand-to-hand for training, but not so much out in the field.
Long range weapon of choice: He's working on some interesting guns, but until those get approved and are in working order (and for extra safety), he carries a pistol with a silencer on it, and spare bullets.
Duty position of your choice: Scientist (though if it is needed more, he could also fill the role of a Scout)
Bunk of choice: Bottom...but he will take whichever is needed or more agreeable with the other person as well.
OBLIGATORY FILLING
Sample RP test: (now for something...lighter and shorter)
Kiku stared at the proffered game board, his expression mercifully masking his inner horror. The colorful box featured laughing children and adults in rather compromising positions, each with ridiculously over-sized grins that reminded Kiku of America’s Halloween decorations. Their hands and feet resided on colored dots, though there seemed to be no particular order in their placement. The subtitle (“The game that ties you up in knots!”) was not winning the board game any favor either. He continued to stare as America elaborated on the game, explaining the rules and emphasizing how much fun Kiku would have if only he would come over for the party. Kiku sighed, and when a pause in America’s sales pitch finally presented itself, he accepted the invitation.
The game had started out innocently enough, though Kiku severely regretted not having broken tradition and worn more clothing beneath his yukata, especially after a particularly unlucky spin brought him just a little too close for comfort to China (a rather uncomfortable reunion of sorts) and France (he could swear the other man was touching him more than necessary). Just as Switzerland made to start the next round, a loud knock on the door caught everyone’s attention. Before any of the other Nations could move, the door opened to reveal a smiling Russia carrying a package. From his position, Kiku could just make out the Kanjis that labeled the parcel as being sent from his home.
Kiku watched as America abandoned the game, causing everyone to topple into each other and make things possibly the most awkward they had been all night. Muttering quiet apologies, Kiku managed to extricate himself from beneath Poland and England in time to see America eagerly tearing away the paper. As the packaging fell to the floor, Kiku felt his cheeks growing warmer as he remembered the exact contents of the bundle now nearly exposed. From the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the other Nations watching America, eyebrows raised in curiosity. As soon as the last of the paper hit the floor, Kiku suppressed a smile as the Nations around him gasped. The most humorous of the reactions belonged to England, who fainted on sight of the English maid costume the grinning American held out to him.
“I believe, Amerika-san, that Igirisu-san likes his birthday present.”

ABOUT THE ROLEPLAYER
About yourself: Me? Well, I'm a girl...and I'm old...(not super old, mind you). My timezone is GMT -5:00, or EST. I'm a Korean/American RPing Japan...figure that one out...who loves writing, reading, music, foreign languages, and so many other random things (this has turned into a novel so I'll stop now).
Pairing friendly?: I'm very open as far as pairings to read/do go. I do have some hang-ups, like necrophilia (heh, on a zombie forum too), pedophilia, and just straight up rape (it's awful really). However, if you're not sure, ask. I'm anything from fluffy to dark.
As for pairings I don't like to read, I don't even mind my disliked pairing as long as it's written well (which, from the little peeks at this place does not seem like it will be something I'll ever worry about). Again, if you're not sure, please feel free to ask.
Personal note to anyone reading your application: Cookies to anyone who made it the entire way through this without dying! I've been RPing Hetalia for over a year now, and my first character was Japan. I've played him a few other places since, so he's had loads of time to develop in my mind. Ah, as for me? I thank you for reading, apologize for the few mistakes I've made up to this point, and hope that this is acceptable!
(Ah, and don't worry England! You're wonderful...it's my silly perfectionist that made me do this roundabout silly route to get here!)
