(Like you guys expected to get any beauty sleep, pairing us together. To clarify, this takes place over several nights, stretching into the 'present' for the end. And when we need someone to scold us *coughEnglandcough* we'll either let everyone know or move momentarily to the Common Room (Russia knows why XD) so...here we go~)
***
Japan realized immediately upon his arrival that he had not been assigned a bunkmate.
This realization did not bother him, as it allowed him to freely choose which bunk he wanted. England had inquired about his choice on the first day, and politely he had stated he had no preference. But England should have known he was simply refusing to choose out of politeness rather than an actual lack of a decision. However, Japan was, for the most part, a reasonable nation. Upon the eventual assigning of a bunkmate, he would of course politely abide by the other nation's choice.
Unless the other nation was Russia.
America thought he hated the cold nation (despite the Cold War being over ages ago), hurling insults like 'Commie' and 'big nose' whenever he got the chance. However, his hatred was like a scratch on the surface of a pristine ice rink in comparison to Japan's and Russia's hatred of each other. Japan had not seen the Slavic nation upon his arrival to the warehouse, and, while he politely wondered about his safety (by generalizing him with Asia and Europe, of course) he was not entirely bothered by the lack of his presence.
However, if for some reason fate found it amusing to pair the two of them together, Japan was going to assert his claim to the top bunk like his life depended on it. Somehow, he could just imagine Russia poking him in the future about how he 'topped' in their sleeping arrangements, an embarrassing way to explain bunk beds that would aggravate Japan at the most inopportune times. The fact that hardly anyone was able to get under his skin would make Russia's jabs equal to rather brutal stabs, especially in the area of pride.
So on the day of Russia's arrival, Japan did not put much effort into speaking to him, only greeting him when they were accidentally inhabiting the same space out of politeness. However, he immediately put all efforts to retain his position on the top bunk when England informed him (rather hastily) that Russia was to be his bunkmate. Japan hid his emotions behind a neutral mask, politely thanking England's retreating back for informing him. Inside, he cursed whatever Kami had decided to cloud his day with misfortune as he prepared for his bunkmate to arrive and all hell to break loose.

((Arg. It's so much shorter than yours~ and I took so long to reply T.T I'm sorry~))
When Russia had found out that Japan was already in the warehouse when he arrived, he was less than pleased. England coming up and telling him, somewhat sheepishly, that he would be bunking with the country made him ready to strangle someone. Namely Japan. Surely just getting rid of Japan would sort the problem, right?
It was with these thoughts that Russia climbed up to the bunk platform. Japan was sitting on his bunk, looking almost smug in Russia's opinion. "Eh, Japan, you sitting on my bunk, da?", Knowing that Japan would not get off and most likely need ... persuading ...

((Aww, no worries. I still love it ^_^ And...I kinda feel sorry for Russia here *kicks self* Mine's rather short this go around x.x))
Japan resisted all urges to kick Russia in the face. It wasn't his fault the Slavic nation was just tall enough to have his face at the level of his foot, though it would be if his foot met Russia's face in anything other than a training session or a legitimate accident. However, that didn't mean he was going to play entirely nice either and allow Russia to make false claims. He was fairly certain England would understand if he was simply stating the obvious and then needing to defend himself as Russia took the news less than well (or sanely). And if Russia wanted to lie about his claim to the top bunk (among other things) simply because he wanted it, then Japan felt even more obligated to point out that no, it did not belong to him.
"Russia-san, you are mistaken. While this bunk belongs to both of us, the bed on the botttom is yours." Politeness alone forced out the 'san' ending...certainly not aided by the frown tugging at the corners of his mouth as he stared at the other nation. Mentally, he cursed England for not considering the consequences of this bunk arrangement, but for the sake of his friendship with England he had been willing to try to put his animosity aside. Unfortunately, Russia was making that quite impossible...and he had just arrived!
"If you have a problem with this arrangement, I would suggest you take it up with England-san." He resisted the urge to vocalize the statement like a mother telling a (rather stupid, in his opinion) child what to do, even though it would have been well used. He was still willing (though not so much anymore) to try to at least tolerate Russia's presence...so long as it was separated by the frame and mattress of the bunk below his own. He even considered sacrificing a sheet to create a curtain, but he scrapped the idea as he deemed it a waste of a perfectly good sheet.

((That's short? THIS IS SHORT. As well as late. *hides in a corner*)) "Is Japan trying to make England responsible?" Russia queried, "That's not nice~" but why was it a problem, anyway? It was his bed, wasn't it? Evidently not for Japan, judging by his slight frown. Russia wondered why England put him with Japan, of all people; Surely there were others, there seemed to be plenty of other new countries, surely some of them still needed bunks... . "But why is that bed yours?",Reaching up and tugging on the foot dangling dangerously close to his head. Most of his past interactions with Japan seemed to be him trying to take what was Russia's, so really, he should have expected the same to happen this time. Really he would have preferred to just drag Japan off the top bunk and deposit him on the bottom, but that would probably mean that several of the countries that held grudges against him would probably take that as a deceleration of war, no question asked.

((YOU IMPRESS ME RUSSIA! *sniffles* Not only was your post not short, it was also done by the mobile app. I refuse to use my phone because it eats letters D: And mine is far later than yours...convention aside!))
Japan ignored Russia's comment about England. Both of them knew it was the Briton that had placed them together, though how much choice he actually had Japan did not know. However, he was not blaming England for anything. After all, it wasn't his fault that Russia latched onto things and claimed he owned them. It wasn't England's fault that the Slavic nation would throw his (very massive) weight around just to take what he wanted. It wasn't England's fault Russia always felt he could bully everyone into giving things to him. It wasn't England's fault Russia had to be a petulant child about everything, including it seemed, sleeping on the bottom bunk. And it certainly wouldn't be England's fault if Japan had to deal with Russia like a parent putting a very large child in timeout.
And if Russia kept giving him that childish smile and tugging his foot like he owned it too, Japan wasn't going to hold England responsible if the larger nation was actually coherent enough to 'sit down and think about what he had done'.
"Russia-san, I have been using this bed since my arrival here." He stated, much more levelly than he thought possible when speaking to the other nation. He inwardly reasoned that his claim to the top had to do with age, rather than simply wanting it more (even though he did want it more, now that Russia was involved). "Again, if you have problems with this arrangement, you will have to take it up with England-san. He is in charge of assigning bunkmates, and I am sure he would be happy to accommodate you." He carefully kept his rather snarky thoughts to himself, not wanting to give the other nation a true complaint against him.
"Now if you'll excuse me, Russia-san." The suffix was said more out of habit than true politeness, though he'd never admit to that if one asked him. "I was just about to sleep. I have been working in the labs for quite some time, and will need to return there quite early in the morning." Hopefully, his polite (as polite as one could be to a child-like nation) excuse would let Russia know the discussion over the beds was over.

((Gragh, where has my brain gone off to? And it's actually on my iPad, so yeah ^^ ) "Aaand? Well, England is probably asleep, anyway, by now~" knowing this was more of a tempoary excuse and wasn't going to be over any time soon, and Japan probably knew this, too. To that end, as Japan was going to try and go to sleep, he let go of his foot and lay down on his- soon to be Japan's- bed. And then started kicking the underside of the upper bed repeatedly, no thought given to whatever Japan might need to be doing in the labs tomorrow morning- if he couldn't sleep in it, Japan wasn't going to, either.

((Ugh, forgive me if this is short. I swear my brain will come back and I'll remember my ideas for this! orz))
Japan merely nodded at Russia's mention of England. He would not under any circumstance acknowledge that Russia was right about anything...even England being asleep. Russia would hold the matter over his head, something that was totally unnecessary and proof of Russia's immaturity. However, he bit back his comments; he would not get into a 'last word' contest with him, since it would never end. He needed sleep far more than he needed to give Russia another excuse to antagonize him. Unfortunately, the issue would still need to be addressed in the morning, whether he wished to do it or not. And it was highly unlikely that Russia would be letting it go anytime soon...not until the bunk he claimed was his was indeed made his.
'England-san...I would feel more sorry for you, having to deal with this situation, if it had not been a bit of your own doing in the first place.' True, England probably had no choice; the other bunks had already been assigned when Russia had arrived. Still, knowing their history, he would have thought England would have tactfully made some switches, rather than risk the two even remotely near each other. 'Perhaps England-san is testing to see whether we can maturely cooperate, given the circumstances.'
The humbling thought of perhaps attempting anything remotely resembling cooperation with Russia was literally knocked from him as the mattress began to jump. Japan resisted the urge to tell Russia off, though the constant movement of the mattress became harder to ignore as the seconds ticked by. Normally, Japan was a patient nation; he outlasted many other nations and could have probably outlasted Russia's childish antics. However, the fatigue from his long hours of working in the lab, coupled with his antagonist being RUSSIA, made his patience rather thin. He was not willing to lose to Russia, but he could sacrifice a tiny portion of his pride to tell the other nation to stop.
"We will..." His voice was broken up slightly as the mattress continued to dance beneath him. "...discuss this...more in the morning...Russia-san." He bet the Russian could, if he listened hard enough, hear the tinge of annoyance that had slipped into his voice.
