America raised an eyebrow. Okay, so perhaps England was oblivious to America's attempt at 'dirty-talking'. Either that, or he'd have to get better at his 'dirty-talking'. Whatever the case, he just decided to save it for now. If he tried explaining his joke, it wouldn't be funny anymore (because that was the thing with jokes- you can't explain a joke and still expect it to be funny). He shrugged at England's puzzled gaze. "Ah, it was nothing," he assured the elder nation, unable to hide a grin. "I was just, like...being weird." Nothing new, he supposed.
He then set his supplies on the ground next to him (making sure to mind his fish) and gathered England up in a hug, trying to make the entire situation a lot less awkward. Of course, his random hug might be even more awkward. Well, whatever. He didn't care. He just had a hankering to hug someone, and the only one he truly wanted to hug was England. "You're warm," he commented, burying his face in England's hair. "I need you to be, like, my personal warming-thing. Whenever I go outside to do something, you should follow me and then, if I get cold, I can just turn and hug you and I'll be warm again."

"You're... peculiar, to say the least." England blinked in confusion, then shrugged, melting into America's embrace. When they were like this, words didn't matter much to England. His skin seemed to be on fire, and it hurt and felt so good at the same time that he just couldn't concentrate on futility such as words. These were the moments when England just lost it and let himself be consumed by the extent of America's love. His dirty little secret?
He loved it when his knees buckled ever so slightly, and America's grip tightened just so slightly on his waist.
"You can hold me any time you want, love." England hummed, closing his eyes and enjoying the smell of America everywhere around him. He loved feeling America so close, because his presence never stopped making him feel absolutely high and as if he were standing on top of the world. "Be it too cold or too hot, you come to me any time, and I... I'll wait for you, alright?" he blushed, putting his arms around America's neck and playing in his hair.

"You'd better wait for me," America replied, pressing a soft kiss to England's lips. Gosh, he really wished he could just stay like this forever. Even the cold wasn't as harsh now that he was this close to England. The threat of zombies disappeared, the disappointment from the lack of fish caught had disappeared, and his problem of wet clothing had disappeared. It was just him and England right now. And he wouldn't have it any other way.
He closed his eyes, letting England's hand play with his hair, the feel of it so soothing and comforting. "I'll probably use the fact that it's too hot or too cold as an excuse," he murmured. "I just like hugging you, is all. You're like a teddy bear, I guess." And then he laughed nervously, realizing how ridiculous his statement sounded. "Um...I'm not very good with talking all romantically," he whispered, kissing England's cheek. "Sorry."
But he knew England would forgive him. England loved him for him, not for his romantic speeches.

"I told you you should've read more Shakespeare, back in the days, but no- you decided that running around and acting like an overgrown child would help you a lot more in the future." England rolled his eyes and pressed himself closer, unwilling to change anything in their moment for anything in the world. He just wished he could let himself go like this more often. He was tired of being on-edge and paranoid at all times. America reassured him enough to allow himself to relax, and, well... England was very grateful for that.
"And so, because of your distinctive lack of eloquence, you will merely be able to stand by and listen as I spin words of gold, the very same gold of your heart, the very same gold of the light you shine in the darkness of this world. I wouldn't change you for anything in the world, love. If there is one thing fate hasn't forsaken, it's you. Please forever remain the light in my heart." And that may have been a bit over-the-top for even himself, but... it was worth it. America deserved the best only, no matter how cheesy romantic, poetic, or just embarrassing the words were.

America blinked, then gave a little snort, a smile coming across his face. "Well, damn," he said, swaying the two of them just slightly. "You've got me beat in the romance department." He sure couldn't ever say anything that even matched what England said to him. It was sweet, heartfelt, and simply perfect. Maybe those old man books with boring poems and silly deaths really did pay off. America instantly made a note in his head to borrow some from England and memorize a few of the quotes. That could earn him points.
For now, though, he wasn't sure how to respond. Well, he just did, and it most certainly wasn't romantic, but America knew for a fact that he couldn't very well just say, "Love you," and leave it at that. He needed to be eloquent and sweet or something. "And, uh...you are always in my heart. No matter what."
Ouch. He sucked. Narrowing his eyes and biting his lip, he nodded a bit. "Yeah, I need some practice. You should teach me."

"Of course I will, I can't have you running around, speaking like a daft fool and claiming you are my lover. You'll ruin my reputation." he snickered. "You still have much to learn. Sometimes I wonder if you'll ever even be able to learn it all." England smirked, tapping America's cheek gently before kissing it lightly, and finally mustering up enough will to pull away from him. "If you need anything, I'll be here." For anything and everything he might ever need. England loved America, and there was nothing that could ever change that. No matter what happened, he would always stand by his side. And England didn't dare doubt that America would want nobody else but him.
"Alright, maybe it's just me, but I am bloody freezing my arse cheeks out here, so if you don't mind, could we continue this in front of the fireplace? Over a warm cup of tea? Anything that doesn't have to take place outside, really." he suggested, rubbing his arms vigorously in an effort to dispel the uncomfortable spikes of cold rippling under his skin.

America really didn't welcome to sudden rush of cool air once England pulled away. He had forgotten they were standing out in freezing temperatures, wet from the snow and shivering from the lack of warmth. Even their coats weren't exactly helpful at this point. Damn Canada and his stupid weather. Why, if they were in one of the more southern states of the United States, America would have stood outside for hours with England. And, all the while, he'd be hoping zombies wouldn't come to gobble them up. Nothing says 'romantic moment' like zombies.
"Yeah," he said, bending back over to grab his supplies. When he straightened, his face was flushed but all he gave England was a large grin. "It's super cold out here. Plus, I want coffee. Not tea. You know I don't like tea." Yet again, he managed to hook arms with England and continued walking. "We should get different flavors of coffee. Like French Vanilla or Cinnamon or Hazelnut. Maybe we can make our own, actually. Especially if we have cinnamon. You think we have cinnamon anywhere in the warehouse?"

"I'm not exactly concerned with how well the food tastes versus the nutritious values of our sustenance." England raised a brow, as if questioning America if he was serious, or just rambling. "But... You can always ask Spain. If anybody knows if we do, he's the one. I especially doubt that we have anything in this warehouse that could even come close to re-creating one of those dreadfully unhealthy liquid sugar drinks of yours, but... well, there was to be something that comes close. As long as you avoid overdosing on sugar, I'll allow any mixture you could ever dream to concoct."
Also, he did not dare complain about the arm-lock they were in, because it kept him so pleasantly warm, he never wanted to let go. What was America doing to him? That boy was taking him apart, piece by piece, and discovering him inside out in the most intimate ways of all. The small pleasures were what counted- and thus, as they walked, England never even considered getting anywhere but closer to the radiant nation walking next to him.

"I never overdose on sugar!" America exclaimed, still rather cheerful. England was agreeing to do all these things with him. Each and every idea sounded perfect and lovely and just amazing. Especially since it involved England and coffee. He leaned down and kissed England's head, still keeping up their walking pace. "I'll show you all my favorite different sorts of drink. Maybe we could try some of them out on tea, too. Like, uh, cinnamon tea?" Did they even make that? If they didn't, America figured he ought to make it himself. And it would be awesome and England would totally love it.
Pulling the island nation closer toward him, doing everything in his power not to start skipping. He figured they should skip one of these days. He could picture the two of them skipping through a field. Well, he could picture dragging England along with said man giving millions of curses and whatnot. Still, that seemed fun. "What do you wanna do when we get back to the warehouse?" he asked. "I mean, after we have a drink of tea or coffee."

"Cinnamon tea sounds swell. A welcome change from all the Earl Grey and English Breakfast I've been having lately." England nodded, a wind of exotic memories blowing through his brain. He'd always had cinnamon tea when he'd gone to Mediterranean countries and Middle Eastern countries. And he didn't go there often. Now, those countries felt like they were so far away, and with another flooring blow, England was reminded of their reality. They couldn't leave. Not ever, not until they were done with the great springtime cleanup. A springtime for the entire world, after having lived through so many cold and despairing months of winter.
"I mostly want to sleep. I know I haven't been getting enough of that lately." Work, training, supervision, more work, missions, fighting, fighting, all the fighting, be it against zombies, or between nations... England was just so tired. "But I have more important things to do first. Namely, I have to check my gun, it's been a while since I haven't. I also have to attribute the night shifts to the according nations, ask Japan some questions about research, and catch up on my physical training." And he sadly noted how none of these supposedly 'more important things' were unrelated to the apocalypse.
No more reading books, sewing a patch, knitting a scarf or practicing white magic. Everything had become survival. Like an instinct. Like an animal reflex. England hated it. He was becoming a machine.

America scrunched his nose up in annoyance. There England went again, worrying about every little detail before his own personal health. America didn't like it one bit. He didn't like the fact that England always put duty before every other thing in life, that he didn't give himself enough time to just relax. Sure, this whole zombie apocalypse thing required the nations to give up many recreational activities, but that didn't mean England could just blow off sleeping or resting his feet.
"Why don't you let someone else do those things?" America asked, his smile turning downwards into a slight frown. "How 'bout, when we're done drinking our tea and coffee, you can go off to bed and I'll check your gun for you- since I'm good with weapons and stuff- and then I can give out night shift duties and then I'll ask Japan some about the research he's doing." He glanced over at the smaller man, eyebrows raised. "You can do physical training when you're all rested up. If you keep pushing yourself to the brink of exhaustion like this, you really won't do nearly as well out on the battlefield."
It wasn't just doing well out on the battlefield that had America worried. He also hated seeing England so stressed and busy, so determined to get everything done before taking care of himself properly. It wasn't right at all.

England looked at him for a moment, longing to be as innocent as him. If only things were that easy (or maybe they were...?). If only.
"I wish I could, love." he rasped, coughing to clear his throat. "It's a responsibility that I have accepted to bear, just as you and the other nations have your own responsibilities. We're all equally burdened. It's not right to give you or anybody else any of my workload because you have your own to worry about." he shook his head and took a few steps forward from America. "I'll be fine. A few of these aren't urgent, anyways. I've still got reports to make, budgets to allocate according to our needs, research to keep up with... It's a job I can't give to anybody else."
It almost felt as if he were apologizing for taking so many things upon his shoulders, but that was ridiculous. England was, and had always been the perfect gentleman. Working hard was a value he treasured immensely. Working hard for the sake of others... It was ironic. Once upon a time, he wouldn't have given a damn about the others. But now... he'd finally realized that unity did create power. And in a situation such as theirs, they couldn't have anything short of unity.

"I'm not asking you to give your job to me," America answered with a short laugh. "I just wanna take some of the load off your shoulders. You deserve just as much rest as everyone else." He bit his lip, glancing over at England. The nation was working hard, and America wished he could just step back and relax for a short while. He knew England liked finishing things, liked being responsible, but his job seemed like too great of a job for one man to accomplish.
Stopping in his tracks (and stopping England while he was at it), he smiled, his eyes bright and wide with anticipation. "Please? Lemme do some of your stuff! I'm asking you to. I really want to help you out, England. I hate being able to kick my feet up while you slave away with budget reports and guns and everything. I can do a little something, right? Just tell me and it'll be done, and then we can go to sleep together!"
Well, maybe not together in that sense. America blushed and chuckled nervously. "I meant, like, at the same time, you know? Point is, I'm not gonna get any sleep- not any at all- until you let me help you out."

"Stupid boy." England rolled his eyes, slightly amused, and pinched America's cheek jokingly. "I can't let you get sleep deprived. A young child like you must get his sleep to grow!" he smirked, pulling on his soft skin a little longer because deciding to give him a break. "That's alright. Thank you for the noble intentions. If ever there is something you can do, I'll tell you." After all, he wasn't the only one who needed to be distracted by the imminent danger outside their doors.
Entertaining the mind and diverting its focus from the beasts waiting outside to rip them apart is fundamental to zombie survival, one of the very first things England was made to learn during his training to face the apocalypse. Of course, books and games and training and chitchat only went so far... England felt bad for not being able to offer more variety to the nations. The last thing they needed was someone going crazy from boredom, or paranoid because they couldn't think about anything else than survival.
"I think our first goal should be to get inside. It is quite chilly, like I've said and I'll say again." he glared at America. "I don't have much today. Perhaps you won't have to wait that long before we can sleep together?" his voice dropped into an embarrassed whisper. He knew he had to be bolder with his relationship, to somehow return America's infinite affection, but he just couldn't help but blush.

America mumbled indignantly when England finished pinching his cheek, rubbing at the spot with one of his hands and putting on a quick pout before it dissolved into a small smile. As if he could pretend to be irritated. England might be able to do that perfectly, but America was far too cheerful, far too expressive, to ever even hope to fake anger or moodiness. He listened to the rest of what England had to say, sighing when he realized the smaller country wasn't going to back down on his stance. So much for being helpful.
"It'd better not take too long," America said, chuckling slightly. "'Cause we should sleep together tonight. It's really cold out, and...and, oh, shit." He trailed off when he realized what he had just been implying and screwed his eyes shut, his blush matching England's. "I-I didn't mean it like that. Just, uh...cuddling! Right? Is...isn't that what you also...?'
The suggestions that he hadn't meant to make were now causing everything to be quite awkward. America bit his lip and looked away from England, feeling very much humiliated and embarrassed. He knew that, at some point, they would probably have to do all the things that normal couples did, but it still felt weird talking about it. "Um...yeah, but maybe we should be getting back!" he exclaimed with a nervous laugh. "It's kinda cold out here and, uh...you should finish your work and stuff so we can go to bed!"
