BASIC INFO
Art by Junez-chan @ Pixiv, # 934881
Name: Scotland [Duncan Alba Kirkland. Duncan was the name of the grandson of the first king of Scotland]
Gender: Male
Appearance: Scotland has the same eye color and eyebrows as his brother England. He's an inch taller, plus his hair is stark red mixed with golden strands instead of blonde and longer/shaggier, hanging down past his ears. His shoulders are broader and his frame is heavier because he's more muscular. Scotland refuses to make himself less visible, even in zombie territory, unless a mission calls for stealth. At that point he'll remove the white straps on his uniform and pull a black bandanna over his hair. Occassionally he may switch his pants for a kilt.
Personality:
Scotland is old, and has been fighting nearly all his life. Fighting to exist, fighting multiple invasions, fighting for independence, etc. The only nation to ever subjugate him is England. The fact England did it more than once is still a sore spot. He's the oldest nation in the United Kingdom, but has little to no patience for his younger siblings and all of their drama. When they are not being drama queens, he doesn't mind them. With Scotland, what you see is what you get. He's not out to impress anyone and generally wants to be left alone.
On the surface Scotland is calm, collected and even a little lazy. He gives everyone the same disdainful, cold front to keep them away. He doesn't often initiate conversations and doesn't like to be touched. He makes some exceptions for the nations he somewhat likes (see relations). Those countries might get a small smile or neutral expression, maybe even a wordless invite to sit near him. He has little patience for whiners, weaklings and drama, and he'll often just walk away from the situation. Other times he may break up the situation by removing the perceived problem or troublemaker in the quickest manner possible.
Underneath is more of the same as on the surface, except for a large pit of anger. Scotland is quick to anger if the right buttons are pushed. He is not above punching someone in the face and sometimes it's an immeadiate reaction to an insult. On the bright side, he can forgive just as quickly. If Scotland is angry and screaming, he's peeved. If Scotland is angry and quiet, he's pissed off and plotting revenge. He's also surprisingly protective despite his aloof manner, and will put himself into harm's way to protect someone he likes. He will support his own alliances before he'll support England's. He's also a smoker and a drinker and can be irritable if he's gone without for a while.
As a lifelong warrior, Scotland enjoys the thrill of battle and the hunt, and it's one of the few situations where he'll smile and laugh freely. Scotland is definitely a lead from the front kind of guy, and woe to anyone who gets in his way. He can have a tendancy to bite off more than he can chew due to his enthusiasm. When he finishes one batch of foes, he tends to go looking for more until he has to stop due to injuries, exhaustion or lack of foes. Getting Scotland to stop fighting is kind of on the difficult and even dangerous side.
When tipsy, Scotland loosens up and can be enjoyable company. He's more talkative and friendly. When drunk, Scotland is not enjoyable company. He tends to become angry, foul-mouthed, aggressive and might even take it out on others. Getting Scotland to stop drinking before he thinks he's done can be difficult too.
Scotland has a soft and even cuddly side, but it's very rare this comes out. The situation has to be just right for this side to appear. Scotland thinks this side of him is vulnerable to attack and like any weakness, he tries to hide it.
Relations with other chars:
England: Head of household and to be obeyed, but Scotland doesn't have to like it. He'll put England down and generally antagonize him, but feels he should be the only one to do so. He will rise to defend England from perceived threats.
Rest of the UK and Ireland: Mild sibling rivalries but he'll fight for them. He likes Ireland best.
France: Continuing ancient alliance; "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." France was his first non-family love, and he still has feelings for France.
England's current/past colonies: Important to England, so he'll fight for them, plus lots of his people moved to some of them. Canada is his favorite, obvious by Nova Scotia.
Poland/Netherlands/Italy: Lots of his people live there and fought for those countries, so he gets along with them.
Norway, Denmark and Sweden: Long history is long. These are old comrades. He recently shared a drunken kiss with Norway.
Russia: An old friend. Current relationship to be examined.
Argentina: He has struck up a comfortable friendship with Argentina since arriving at the strong hold. They have sparred and shared a drunken kiss.
Nations younger than his union with England (1707), or still look like children: Viewed as children, who are to be indulged to a certain point.
Everyone else: Meh, to be decided
Special abilities: Scotland can see the same magical creatures that England sees and mostly distrusts them to the point he'll sometimes chase them away. He understands magic (due to having the same roots as England) and is perfectly capable of performing it, but generally doesn't because he'd rather work with his own hands. His magic is more nature-based and he must be in contact with nature for him to do much of anything.
AU-RELATED
Short range weapon of choice: A broadsword worn on his back, and two hand axes worn at his hips. He will improvise with anything.
Long range weapon of choice: An Uzi submachine gun that hangs from a strap around his torso. He carries extra clips in the cargo pockets of his uniform. Crossbow is a second choice.
Duty position of your choice: Front-Liner (tank)
Bunk of choice: Either, he can sleep anywhere. He likes couches.
OBLIGATORY FILLING
Sample RP test:
(From another Hetalia site, playing South Korea)
Korea took a step back when the demon took slow, thundering steps down towards them. He wasn't scared, he was just being cautious. Fear was counter-productive, but caution saved lives.
Always keep the height of a man between yourself and a potential opponent; that was sufficient room to react to sudden moves. He heard the quiet hissing sound of a blade being drawn behind him and realized he didn't have a single blade on him. He hadn't expected to fight anything that was capable of being cut by a blade.
Then move suddenly the demon did. It flew down the stairs faster than something that size should have moved down stairs. Korea's left foot never moved, but his right foot slid out and backwards in an arc, effectively turning his body sideways as the creature breezed just past him to go after Japan behind them. He had a brief moment to check if China was still on his feet, and he was, so Korea's attention was directed to the demon and Japan.
He didn't see the initial strike, but he did see Japan go stumbling backwards and fall to a knee. Korea shut closed his cellphone, curling his fingers tightly around it so he wouldn't lose it. He then tugged on the strap across his chest, twisting the body of the satchel to his lower back as China took a swipe at the demon with a sword he wasn't aware the older nation had. Slick, very slick.
Japan was back on his feet and Korea's lips pulled back into a feral grin. Pushing off with his left foot towards the demon, Korea used the required distance for his right foot to catch up to build momentum. Both elbows and his right arm pulled in close to his body to protect his ribs, and his left hand hovered near his face for protection. His right knee came forward before the rest of his leg, with a final twist of his hips for more power, resulting in him forcefully driving his right knee towards the side of the demon closest to him.

ABOUT THE ROLEPLAYER
About yourself: Been RPing online since 1999. I followed the original Canada here. I live in Japan so timezones apply. First time playing Scotland, but researched. I will give Scotland an accent, and if there is any confusion on what he's said, let me know and I'll add a translation.
Pairing friendly?: Any/all pairings, RP will decide. Bi-sexual switch, expects to play both roles.
Personal note to anyone reading your application: I love combat RP and comedy, but have experience in everything from bloody, gorey violence to light-hearted crack. I picked his first name as Duncan because it was the name of the grandson of the first king of Scotland. The other choice for a name from that era in the King's family was Constantine.
