BASIC INFO
Name: Belarus [Natalya Arlovskaya]
Gender: Female
Appearance: Belarus is of average height, thin, but wiry and strong. Long, platinum blonde hair, dark blue eyes that will stare into your soul and make you regret your very existence. She totally does not wear the dress into combat – for that she still prefers layers and dark colors, though.
Personality:
- Has a very analytical mind, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. She can strategize and anticipate things in the battlefield, but it gives her trouble with things she doesn’t quite understand (like interpersonal interactions), where she completely overanalyzes everything.
- Belarus is very possessive, particularly over people she cares about. Of course, she doesn’t deal with her feelings in anywhere near a healthy manner, and she doesn’t quite know how to express herself in a positive way. Her way of expressing love and affection is by clinging to the people she cares for, to the point of being smothering and overbearing, which in turn pushes people away.
- Has trust and jealousy issues. Maaaaajor trust and jealousy issues. Belarus’s greatest fear is of being left alone and neglected. She doesn’t trust people when they aren’t directly where she can see them – her imagination and insecurities go wild and assumes the worst of everyone.
- She is very sensitive and easily hurt, but is not good at communicating about the things that bother her. She is constantly reading into otherwise innocuous actions and finding hurtful motives behind them, which only fuel the above trust issues. She goes on the offensive and can be very aggressive, unpleasant, and difficult to deal with, as a sort of pre-emptive retaliation. She has a pessimistic outlook on life and a low opinion of most people – she expects to be hurt, and when people fulfill those expectations, it only makes her feel more justified in her anger.
- She is very moody, and experiences major mood swings. On rare occasions when she is feeling happy, comfortable, and secure, she can be very sweet and affectionate, but the slightest (perceived) offense will send her spiraling back down into being broody and hating everything.
- She is very codependent, particularly in her relationship with Russia. Her emotional well-being (or not) is very dependent on her relationships with those close to her (so, mainly Russia and Ukraine). She is intensely loyal and attached to them, and doesn’t realize that she is being frightening and hurtful.
- Though she is occasionally driven to actual violence, it is not the murderous kind of violence, nor is Belarus a sadist. Sometimes she becomes overwhelmed with emotion and feels like she isn’t being heard and she can’t process or express it in a productive manner, so she lashes out physically.
- In summary – Belarus is a deeply insecure individual who craves acceptance and affection, but whose understanding of human interaction is so flawed that she either assumes the worst of people or drives them away through being overbearing.
Relations with other chars:
Russia: First off I want to clarify that Belarus is NOT sexually interested in Russia. Very emotionally attached to him, yes. She can be creepy and obsessive about it at times, and it absolutely is very unhealthy. I don’t think she’ll do the whole “marry me” thing here, but she does want a lot of attention from him. She realizes at some level that he is creeped out by her and is trying to distance himself, but this only makes her want to try harder to fix things, without realizing that she’s going about it in exactly the wrong way. Even though their relationship has always been rocky and he has let her down before, Belarus still hopes for things to improve and believes that Russia is one of the only people she can trust.
Ukraine: Belarus’s relationship with Ukraine is a little more complicated – she has some of the same attachment issues as with Russia, except to a lesser degree. Belarus craves attention from her older sister, but also resents her because she sees her as a rival for Russia’s attention. Belarus blames Ukraine for some of the problems that she currently has with Russia.
Lithuania: Also complicated. She hates him for being Russia’s “favorite” and thinks that he is weak and annoying. She’s also fully aware that he has a bit of a crush on her, which she thinks is pathetic, yet, she does enjoy the attention. She’s taken to testing just how mean she can be to him before she drives him away, and as a result continually loses what little respect she has for him. She’d still be kind of disappointed if/when she ever drives him away, though.
Special abilities: Can see ghosts. Doesn’t quite know what to do about it.

Tino rushed into the computer lab, breathless and flushed from dashing up several flights of stairs. He dragged a spare chair over to Eduard’s workspace and plopped down into it (earning reproachful glares from the lab’s other inhabitants). Thudding his elbows down onto the computer desk, he leaned forward and opened his mouth –
No words came out.
Eduard frowned to stop himself from snickering out loud.
“Not fucking funny,” Tino hissed, catching sight of the expression, and Eduard nonchalantly turned back to face the computer screen.
“What is it, then?”
He watched the reflection in the computer screen as Tino’s face fell from slightly annoyed to significantly dismayed.
“I- I think I accidentally just asked him out,” he tried to keep his voice low, which was ineffective, considering that the lab was silent save for their conversation and scattered typing. The student sitting across the aisle turned his head to raise an eyebrow at them.
“Should we go somewhere else to talk about this? I could use a coffee break,” Eduard offered, saving his work and packing up his bag.
Tino nodded gratefully, all too aware that most of the room was eavesdropping on them, if not outright staring.
The stares didn’t stop until the computer lab door slammed shut behind them.
“How the hell do you accidentally ask someone out?” Ed asked as they clattered down the stairs.
“I don’t know,” Tino moaned, raking a hand through his hair, “I didn’t mean to?”
“You never mean to,” Eduard muttered, paying for a cup of coffee at the student union counter.
Tino kept rambling over him as they went to grab seats, “We were talking, and he mentioned that he doesn’t really go out much - new to town, and all – and I thought that was just sad, so I said, ‘Oh, I’m thinking of going to Centrum on Friday night, you should come along,’ y’know, just trying to be friendly, not expecting him to actually agree, because can you seriously see him going out to Centrum? Shit would be awkward. But, anyway, he agreed. “
Centrum was a cheap, borderline-trashy nightclub near the city center.
“Awkward,” Eduard affirmed, picturing the tall, stoic Swede surrounded by a crowd of blackout-drunk bar patrons making out and grinding on each other, amidst fog machines, flashing lights, and copious amounts of spilled beer.
“No shit.”
“But, then again, you did ask.”
“Shit.”
Ed shrugged and took a long sip of coffee.
“Come with me? Please? Don’t make me go alone.”
“What else are best friends for?” Eduard sighed.
