Canada stiffled a laugh, America hadn't changed a bit. He was still the older brother that Canada adored so much. "Of course you were the hero, no could be as brave as you." He immediately felt better after listening to his brother's optimism, he never ceased to make him smile. At least when he wasn't trying to get on Canada's nerves.
"Actually I wasn't here for the discovery of the cure, could you tell me more about it?" He was interested to know exactly what his brother had been doing before he got here. Hopefully America hadn't had too much fun without him. He felt a pang of jealousy, but he quickly scolded himself for thinking that. He was going to have to share his brother with the other nations whether he liked it or not.

Hearing Canada just confirm the fact that he was a brave hero made America quite proud. He guessed his brother was taught rather well. Walking a bit straighter and holding his chin up just a tad bit more, America nodded. Yes, he certainly was the hero. If even Canada could realize that, all the other countries must realize it, too, since Canada was smart. At least, America thought he was. He was quiet, at least, and the quiet ones were always the smartest (besides America himself).
"The cure? Well..." How much to tell him, though? America rubbed at his face with a gloved hand, trying to get his nose warm. It was probably as red as a cherry by now. After a minute to think it over, America just decided to go with the basics. "England was bitten by a zombie, not sure if you knew that or not. Luckily, he was able to send the other nations out on a mission. I think he had orders or something. I stayed behind to kinda watch over him and make sure everything was cool, so I'm not exactly sure what the others did, but they were able to find what they needed and our scientists were able to make a cure." Just in time, he mentally added, recalling how England had fallen into the final stage.
"Honestly, though, one of the nations who went on the mission might be able to tell you more."

"Really? England was hurt? Is he ok?" Could England even get hurt? This was a big surprise, he had never seen England in pain of any kind before and he was worried. How could someone so much stronger and more experianced than himself get bitten? This only made Canada more afraid of the zombies. At least his brother hadn't been hurt, he would have been even more worried.
"You didn't get hurt, did you brother?" Was he overreacting again? He just wanted to make sure no one was hurt. He looked into his brother's eyes to see if he could tell whether what he would say would be a lie. He wouldn't lie about being hurt, would he?

"He's fine now," America assured. "It was a close call, but he's England. You know he pulls through everything." America snorted, just remembering all the past wars they had fought in, with or against each other. England had always stayed strong, despite a few losses. He was just a stubborn nation that hated to give up. However, the thought of England's survival brought a smile to his face.
Of course, Canada's next question, laced with concern and worry, made America smile. Though he wasn't much older than Canada (some nations even contemplated if he was the older one, what with how opposite he and Canada were), he sometimes felt much, much older. Canada tended to worry a lot more, almost proclaiming his status as the younger one. "Nah, I'm fine. I don't let those zombies get too close to me, you know."

A look of relief crossed Canada's face "Good, I'm glad everyone's fine." He honestly didn't mean to worry so much, but he couldn't help it sometimes. He would probably go into a state of depression if something ever happened to England or American. He might as well include France to the list, even though England hated it when he mentioned his name.
Never the one to talk too much, Canada simply kept scanning the area along the wall, making sure not to miss any inch of the surrounding area. He did still have a job to do, and he was determined to do it correctly. Then he saw another dark shape ahead, but it was too far to see what it was. However, it did look rather big, maybe it was a group of trees, or wooden barrels. Canada took off his glasses, blew hot air on them and rubbed the water off of them. He put his glasses back on again, maybe he had just been seeing things...

Smiling, America nodded. "Yep. Safe and sound." He considered all of them to be rather lucky- despite the bites and bruises and whatever they all received, the nations managed to pull through it all. He also figured that this crazy apocalypse was bringing them all much closer together. He couldn't remember the last time they all completed something without bickering for at least ten minutes, but in the face of true danger, they made quite a team.
He opened his mouth, about to ask if Canada was feeling comfortable here, when he noticed his brother's sudden alertness. "Is something wrong?" he asked, peering suspiciously at the other.

Still stareing at the dark shape in the distance, Canada replied "Can you see that black shape up ahead?" He was afraid that it might be a horde of zombies, but he couldn't be sure. It didn't seem to be moving, but then again zombies moved slower than nations. He silently hoped that it wasn't any living thing, whether it be a nation or zombie. It wasn't safe to be outside alone.
"I can't see what it is, can you?" He looked at his brother, hopeing that he could see it. That he would say it was only a tree, or some other obstacle. Anything but those horrible monsters that had ruined North America. He hoped that he was just being overly worried again.

"It..." America squinted, following Canada's gaze, and shook his head. "I can't really tell," he muttered. Then, with a sigh, he looked back at Canada. "For all we know, it could be something else. But..." With a shrug, he continued. "We can't do anything about it now. And I don't want to call the alarm and we figure out it's just, ya know...not zombies." He patted his brother. "You're a lot more observant than I am. We just need to pay close attention to it. If it moves, then we call the alarm."
He really hated sitting back and waiting, but he didn't want to mess up. He didn't want them to learn it was just him being overly paranoid (even though he was, and he believed it was okay for him to be paranoid in a situation like this). "Just keep your eyes on it."

"Ok" answered Canada. He stood very still and stared at the figure. He never took his eyes off it for a long time. His eyes grew sore for looking at that one spot for too long. Finally after a long time, Canada looked at his brother and stated "It's not moving." He looked back at the dark shape, sqinting his eyes to get a better look. Slightly blushing, Canada said "I think it's just a bush, I'm sorry." He felt really bad for worrying so much, maybe he was paranoid. He had only wanted to do his job right, now he was disappointing his brother by mistaking a bush for a zombie. Why couldn't he do anything right?

America laughed, very much relieved that it really just was a false alarm. He wasn't in the mood to go fight zombies again, especially not in this weather. "No, no, it's cool," he assured Canada, a smile on his face. "Don't worry 'bout it. I'm actually glad you caught sight of it. We need to always be on the lookout, you know?" He sighed, turning away from the shape. "See, this is why you're a scout and I'm not. I think I'm far too hyper to be trying to be on lookout."
He honestly hadn't noticed anything and he felt scared just thinking of what would have happened if those were zombies and they did come forward and America never raised the alarm. Thankful Canada was with him, America draped one of his arms around his brother's shoulder. "You're good," he commented again.

"Thank you." Canada was beaming was pride. He was so happy that his brother thought he was good at something. He really was an approval seeker, wasn't he? He mentally reminded himself to work on that. Why couldn't he be as confident as his brother?
America set his arm around Canada's shoulder. Canada didn't mind too much, until he realized something. Was he shorter than his brother? He could have sworn that they were the same height, but looking over at America now, he looked slightly taller than Canada. He tried to straighten himself up, determined to be exactly as tall as his brother. Why should he even be worried about such a small detail?
Completely forgetting about their previous conversation, Canada asked "What were we talking about again?" He felt slightly embarrassed at forgetting, but everyone forgets things sometimes, right? Of course they did, why was he worrying so much over nothing today?

"Uh..." America blinked, then shrugged. "Honestly, I don't remember. I think we were just catching up." He looked up at the sky, wondering if it was about to snow once more. As far as he could see, everything looked gray and cloudy. Plus, it sure felt like snow. He really hoped it didn't, though. Snow decreased visibility, meaning they wouldn't be able to tell when the zombies showed up.
"Let's talk about happy stuff," he suddenly blurted out. "Minus food. I'm a bit hungry, so I don't wanna think about food." he hummed, thinking of a topic to discuss. He glanced around, quickly getting to the point where he was at a loss for words. "Got anything?"

Canada had to think for a moment about what to talk about. Usually someone else would start the conversation first, with him being rather shy. "Well, what do you usually do when you have free time?" suggested Canada. There really wasn't anything to talk about. He even remembered talking about what America would do for fun at his house. He didn't want to be repetitive, but he couldn't think of anything else to say. Hopefully they would find a subject that was more interesting than this by talking some more.

"I'm gonna assume you mean what I did before everything went to hell." America snickered at his own statement. Honestly, he'd much rather discuss life before the apocalypse. It was much better, obviously, and, besides, life right now was quite boring. When he was driven to scout in the freezing cold, it most certainly was quite boring.
And America hated boring.
"Um...well, I liked playing video games. I liked going to the movies. I really liked hiking or mountain climbing or sky-diving. It hurts when you land in trees, but it's totally worth that massive rush of adrenaline. I liked hanging out with you and Japan and Iggy and Lithuania. Sometimes Italy. He makes some good pasta." America hummed, thinking a little bit. "Yourself?"

"Well, I liked to cook, even if it was only for myself. I loved to play hockey, but I only during the winter. I used to go fishing, but I haven't been in quite a while. I like to spent time with you as well." Canada didn't mention that he usually did these activities alone, well except for the last one of course. He had liked spenting time with his brother the most. Canada was never bored when America was around, how could anyone be bored?
